Southbound sign at junction 3M6 Junction 3

Junction 3 is on one of the later sections of the M6 opened on 7th July 1971. The junction is the main junction for Coventry North, Nuneaton and Bedworth being located just north of Coventry and just south of Bedworth just north of the Warwickshire/ West Midlands Border.

The junction is typical of many midland junctions being roundabout under the M6 type, save except for the fact that it means that as you leave the M6 you have to break downhill and on joining you have to accelerate uphill. Originaly a nothern bypass of Bedworth had be created down to this junction, southern traffic having to follow a easterly connection to the A444 as shown below:-

Later a new road was taken on the bed of an old railway from this junction into Coventry City Centre the new road taking on the number A444 the orginal A444 being relegated to a B road.
